Terry Edis, who died in 2011, was an inspirational leader who touched the lives of many. Terry not only represented the tenant management sector but also exemplified, through his life and work, all the values that lie at the heart of the TMO vision. As Chair of Burrowes Street TMO, WATMOS Community homes and the NFTMO he inspired the development of strong, inclusive , co-operative organisations.
Terry became involved in tenant management of the Walsall Council estate where he lived in the early 1990s £ concerned about the housing conditions in which he and his neighbours lived and about the general decline of his neighbourhood. His warmth and interest in people made him a respected and popular figure, not just in his local community, but also in his dealings with other tenants£ organisations, government agencies and ministers. Terry's voluntary work was acknowledged in 2008 when he was awarded the MBE in the New Year's Honours List.

The Terry Torch Campaign
A ceremonial torch, commemorating Terry Edis, was carried to tenant management organisations around the country as part of a campaign to spread the word about community controlled housing. The Torch began its journey at the Carpenters TMO in the shadow of the Olympic Stadium in Stratford, London and ended its tour of the country in Stratford Upon-Avon at the Annual Conference of the Nation Federation of TMOs.
