Conference Inspires Informs and Entertains!

Sunny weather, a lovely location and over 300 great people sounds like a recipe for success! So it was at the weekend as TMO members and staff from around the country gathered in Stratford-Upon-Avon for the 2014 Annual Conference.

Keynote speakers included Sven Bergenstråhle the President of the International Union of Tenants.

His message to conference was that there is an international trend of increased subsidy to owner occupation while support for affordable rented housing is reduced. He said countries that had adopted balanced tenure neutral policies have been much less impacted bu housing crisis.

Linda Hines MBE told her inspiring story of community led redevelopment by the Witton Lodge Community Association. Masood Hussain desribed how Browning EMA had made striking improvements in governance and performance.

Tony Brown of Youthwork Toolbox encouraged delegates to increase levels of youth engagement. He was joined on stage by young people from Walsall who had participated in the TMO Youth Residential in March.

There were 20 workshops including staple TMO topics such as allowances, the management agreement, financial control  and governance. New workshop features included Fire Safety, the Paperless TMO and a practical session on community involvement through singing!
