Housing Disrepair Claims – Call for Evidence
The Ministry of Housing, Communities and Local Government (MHCLG) has launched a Call for Evidence which aims to look at the process for tenants, landlords, legal professionals and claims management companies. MHCLG states:
“This call for evidence seeks views on cases where tenants in England consider seeking redress through the County Court by bringing a claim against their landlord for housing disrepair, and the role of claims management activity in this process.”
Several members have raised the issue of claims management companies flooding their communities with leaflets encouraging tenants to put in a disrepair claim even where the TMO has not been notified of an issue.
The Call for Evidence will close on 12th February and presents an opportunity for TMOs and their tenants to set out how the system currently operates and what the issues are and how it can be improved.
