Social Tenant Access to Information Requirements (STAIRS)

Those member organisations who manage homes within the Housing Association sector will not fall under the expanded Freedom of Information proposal but they will need to comply with the requirements of the Social Tenant Access to Information Requirements (STAIRS).

The governments policy statement sets out how the sector should provide information to its tenants and established the Housing Ombudsman Service (HOS) as the body which will respond to complaints from those who feel that their landlord is not providing the information required under the scheme.

The HOS has now set out how they propose to look at complaints and they are consulting on how they will do this.

The consultation will run until 17th March 2026.
